In order to pursue a career in medicine, it is mandatory for aspiring students to appear for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination (NEET), which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after completion of their 12th grade education.

The selection process for admission into government, central, private, and deemed medical colleges across the country is based on the NEET scores. Admissions to medical institutions and colleges are offered through a counselling process that takes into account the fulfillment of eligibility criteria, preferences of colleges, and the availability of seats.

The counselling process typically includes multiple rounds such as round-1, round-2, mop-up round, and stray rounds, and is conducted based on the availability of vacant seats after each round. If seats remain unfilled at the end of one round, subsequent rounds of counselling will be conducted.

Admission of candidates (MBBS) is based on NEET UG, the centralized online allotment list published in the Medical Counselling Committee’s (MCC).
